The East African Self Reliance
Program and the community sewing center it gave birth to were developed out of
a desire to give back to the community. It sprang from the ideas of the East
African immigrants and refugees it serves, as communicated through Horn of
Africa Services, and came to fruition as our community project in the
Leadership Tomorrow program. We hope it will be a real benefit to those who
participate.
This is a program that can provide
a wide variety of benefits: skill building toward a career or entrepreneurial
enterprise, self-esteem building for students and teachers, community building,
and more.
Those of us who developed the
program, established the sewing center, and shepherded it through the pilot
phase of development, hope it can continue for many years to come.
